The Two Trees Down the Hill

The Two Trees Down the Hill

The house we grew up in was across from a really big park (Benson Park) in Omaha, Nebraska. We spent a lot of time in that park, and it was always one of my favorite places to play and explore.

There were two tall pine trees in the park across from our house, and a friend and I would often climb as high as we could in them and just sit and look out over the surrounding area. It was a fantastic vantage point.

Those trees were also an escape, a place to daydream, a lookout tower, a sanctuary, a personal climbing challenge, and many other things that a young mind can conjure up. I loved them.

I'd descend, enjoying the sticky tacky feel and scent on my sap-covered hands as I went off for the next adventure of the day.
