Murmurations
When I was driving across Nebraska once near North Platte, I saw the most amazing thing – a murmuration. I didn’t know what that was at the time, but thousands and thousands of birds flying through the air like a school of fish is a pretty spectacular sight to behold.
I pulled off to the side of the road and watched, engrossed in the spectacular beauty and elegance of the swarm. It was autumn, evening, and the sun was setting with some trees in my foreground. The birds were backlit so all I saw were fluid formations swirling through the sky.
That sight has stuck with me ever since, and I finally got to working out some images inspired by my experience. This series of paintings explores some of what I took away from that day and other compositions I found along the way.
This work was part of the 2018 SummerStock exhibition at Gallery 1516 in Omaha, Nebraska.
