When I was driving across Nebraska once near North Platte, I saw the most amazing thing – a murmuration. Now, I didn’t know what it was at the time, but thousands and thousands of birds flying through the air like a school of fish is a pretty spectacular sight to behold.
I pulled off to the side of the road and just watched. It was autumn, evening, and the sun was setting. The birds were backlit so all I saw were fluid formations swirling through the sky.
That sight has stuck with me ever since, and I finally got to working out some images inspired by my experience. This series of paintings explores some of what I took away from that day and other compositions I found along the way.
