The Awakening, Part II

Sometimes, it’s apparent when a breakthrough has happened. It doesn’t even have to be something big. Just a realization that past that point in time, everything is different.

After months of messing around and experimenting with techniques and materials that I had never used, or hadn’t used in a long time, I ended up with this. And I had one of those moments where I just felt that everything had changed. I felt an awakening. A rejuvenation of energy and spirit, where I knew I was on the right path and had figured something out.

It wasn’t about the idea behind the artwork or the image as much as it was about the process of creation. Of having made something that broke through the barriers of knowing how to get the ideas in my head out into something physical.

After finishing this piece, I felt awake to the possibilities before me for creating more images that capture the thoughts, feelings, and ideas that I’d bottled up for so long. I made something that accurately captured the feeling and image I wanted to make. It felt good, and it felt like I’d learned something. And I wanted to do more.

A door had been opened, and I was excited to be on the other side of it; ready to explore what was next.
